With the support of
Dalian Institute of Chemistry and Physics, a new kind of chemical
packing,
activated ball, was developed for catalyst support and
coverage. It' s made by adding tiny
transition metallic oxides in the inert alumina ball.
Therefore, besides inert alumina ball's characters of high
mechanical strength, high chemical stability and heat endurance,
activated ball can not only filter & distribute gas or liquid, cover
& support catalyst in the reactor, but also remain certain
catalytic activity. It can facilitate catalysis during various
processes, e.g. olefin hydrogenation, desulfurization, and denitrification.
For
some specific processes, e.g. hydrogenation of distillate oil,
hydrocracking, and benzene hydrogenation, if filled with activated
ball on the top of catalyst bed in the hydrogenation reactor, it can
support preliminarily olefin hydrogenation and prevent catalyst from
caking. If filled activated ball at the bottom of catalyst bed, it
can remove undesired mercaptan generated from some reaction
processes.
Applying activated ball, it can not only improve the reactor's space
application efficiency largely, but also prevent catalyst from
poisoning or agglomeration, so as to lengthen its useful life.
